My mum wants me to get a job... *scoffs* I'll pass
In November 2022, exactly 3 months after I quit my 9-5, my mum started bugging me, telling me to go get a job, leave the house, and do something with my life.
I didn’t want a job because I quit my last job, so why would I want another one?
I declined whenever she brought it up until…'
I was reading a tweet one day, and it said something along the lines of “To be a good storyteller, you must have story-worthy moments to write about”
Then I asked myself, “What story-worthy moments could I possibly get from being home every day”?
Guess what I did…
I went to my mum, and broke the news to her…
“Mum, I’m going in search of a job”
She gave me the “you have finally come to your senses” look, and said “Good luck”
I left the house, CV in hand, and on my way, I thought about the best places to work that'd give me story-worthy moments…
And the one place that came to mind was a bar.
So, I made a few phone calls and was given directions to a bar that was employing.
Long story short, I submitted my CV, and two days later, I got the job.
I was esthetic. Finally, I'm gonna have a ton of experiences and stories to write about hence making me a great storyteller.
In my 7 days of working at the bar, I gained a bunch of experiences and story-worthy moments. I Tweeted/wrote threads on them but I also realized something…
The takeaway of this whole boring ass story…
I wasn't able to write those threads and Tweets just because I had experiences to write about…
But because I knew how to write stories…
I didn't know that I had the skill until I started to get compliments from people, and then I looked back at my writing and compared it with a couple of other creators.
That was when I realized that I indeed am a storyteller.
Having great experiences and stories to write/tell, doesn't make you a storyteller.
What makes you a storyteller is how well you can communicate your message to your readers/listeners…
You could have the most interesting experience, but no one would read your story because you lack the skill to make them read it.
Having story-worthy moments to talk about is great and all, but knowing how to actually talk about them in a way that grabs and holds your reader's attention, is the real deal.
In subsequent emails, I'll be showing you how I got good at storytelling, and how you too can.
PS;
I'm not one of those people that emails their subscribers every day, not because it's too much work for me, but because what's the point if no one reads it?
So, I'm gonna give you your space, and only email you once a week 😉
Quick note…
If I made it to your spam or promotions tab, kindly do well to drag my ass to your primary inbox, and I'd really appreciate that. 😁
See you next week CopyTeller…
Ciao for now ☺️
